Joint Finance Committee Hearings on Evers' Budget Proposal for Nonpartisan Redistricting

people_at_hearing2.jpg

Our least favorite US Supreme Court Justice, Brett Kavanaugh, admitted that "extreme partisan gerrymandering is a real problem for our democracy." Help us convince the Joint Finance Committee that Wisconsin's extreme partisan gerrymander has got to go. Governor Evers' budget allocation for nonpartisan redistricting reform is just what's needed to stop our politicians from choosing their own voters and make sure voters get to choose their political representatives when Wisconsin redraws our electoral maps in 2021.

Also at stake is the fate of BadgerCare expansion. Grassroots North Shore has made both issues a priority for our supporters this year. So we urge everyone who can to attend one or more of the four Joint Finance Committee public hearings that will take place around the state in April. Here's the full schedule with links to sign up to attend the hearings in Janesville (April 5) and Green Bay (April 24).

Janesville, Friday April 5th (Pontiac Convention Center, 2809 N Pontiac Drive, Janesville, WI 53545)

Oak Creek, Wednesday April 10th (OC Community Center 8580 S Howell Ave, Oak Creek, WI 53154)

River Falls, Monday April 15th (UW River Falls University Center - Riverview Ballroom #260, 501 Wild Rose Ave, River Falls, WI 54022)

Green Bay, Wednesday April 24th (UW Green Bay University Union - Phoenix Rooms #2430, Campus Court, Green Bay, WI 54311)

Please sign up for the hearing in the Milwaukee area below. You can also support the BadgerCare expansion by signing up at the Citizen Action events page.

Support for these two causes at these hearings can take two forms: 1) signing up to speak to the issue; and 2) standing to show support for other speakers addressing the issue. They officially start at 10am and go until 5pm, but most people arrive at 8:30 in order to sign up to speak.

If you think you will want to speak at the Oak Creek hearing, please email Nancy Kaplan. You can use your own ideas or you can ask her to send you some of the key talking points the Fair Maps Coalition is using to get the message out. We will also send you a description of what you can expect to happen at the hearing so you will be fully prepared.

Help Grassroots North Shore and the Fair Maps Coalition make a good showing at the Milwaukee area Joint Finance public hearing on Wednesday, April 10!
