Tony Evers |
Sara Rodriguez |
We know Governor Evers's vision for our state, but most of us don't know much about his running mate, Sara Rodriguez. So here is a bit of background and some of her key issues.
Getting to know Sara Rodriguez
Sara Rodriguez has dedicated her career to solving problems. She is a nurse, community leader, public health professional, entrepreneur, proud mom, and running for Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin. She is a small business owner, served as a vice president at a Fortune 100 company, and worked as an executive with a large local health care system.
Sara currently serves as an elected member of the State Assembly representing Waukesha County and the western suburbs of Milwaukee. She was one of very few Democrats in the country to flip a Republican-held district.
Her approach to addressing problems is rooted in fact-based practices, science, and connecting with communities across Wisconsin. Sara was one of only 70 individuals chosen annually to be an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where she led national and international outbreak investigations, and she worked to address chronic disease for a state healthcare agency.
Whether as a nurse, public health professional, small business owner, legislator, or as a working mom, Sara has dedicated her life to solving problems. Throughout her career in the public and private sector, Sara has taken on hard fights and won. Sara defeated a four-term Republican incumbent in 2020 and has been a crucial voice in the legislature advocating for public education, quality and affordable healthcare, and reproductive freedom.
As the granddaughter of dairy farmers, Sara understands there is more that unites us than divides us. Every family wants to earn a good living, send their kids to good schools, and have access to quality, affordable healthcare. Like Gov. Evers, Sara is committed to doing the right thing for Wisconsin and providing common sense leadership.
Key Issues
-
Reproductive Health: Gov. Evers and Sara are the only candidates for Governor and Lieutenant Governor that are pro-choice. As a healthcare professional, Sara knows that the recent SCOTUS decision puts real lives at risk. In the Assembly, Sara co-sponsored legislation to repeal Wisconsin's 1849 law criminalizing abortion. As Lieutenant Governor, Sara will never stop fighting to protect the right of every Wisconsinite to make their own healthcare decisions and defend against attacks on reproductive rights.
-
Gun Violence: As a mom and a community leader, making sure all our kids are safe at school and in their communities is one of Sara’s top priorities. Sara voted against a bill that would’ve shielded gun manufacturers from civil lawsuits over gun violence and also voted against a Republican bill that would’ve permitted guns on school grounds. As Lieutenant Governor, Sara will continue to fight for gun safety and oppose efforts to make our kids less safe.
- Education: A fully funded public education system is critical to creating thriving communities. As Lieutenant Governor, Sara will advocate for opportunities and skills training so that all students and families have equitable access to education throughout their life. Sara also wants to ensure that every child has access to the support and mental health resources they need to live healthy lives. We should support students and educators like our future depends on it — because it does.
